Wojciech Rodek

Born in Brzeg, he studied conducting at the Music Academy in Wrocław (class of Prof. Marek Pijarowski). He also completed the Slavic philology course at the University of Wrocław and graduated from the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in Moscow. In 2002, he won the second prize in the 3rd Witold Lutosławski Conductors' Contest in Białystok. In 2005, he won the competition for the position of assistant to Antoni Wit at the Warsaw Philharmonic, where he worked until 2007. In the years 2010-2015, he was the Music Director of the Gliwice Musical Theatre, and in the years 2014-2016, the Artistic Director of the Lower Silesian Philharmonic. In 2011, Wojciech Rodek received the Jan Kiepura Theatre Music Award in the Best Conductor category. In 2015, he was awarded the medal of Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis. He teaches conducting at the Music Academy in Wroclaw and holds a Doctor of Arts degree.

Wojciech Rodek is the Artistic Director of the Lublin Philharmonic and the Grand Theatre in Łódź. Having conducted almost all Polish symphony orchestras, including Orchestra of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, Sinfonia Varsovia, National Orchestra of Polish Radio in Katowice, Polish Radio Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra, as well as orchestras in Lviv and Verona, he collaborates with the Ankara Presidential Symphony Orchestra, Antalya State Symphony Orchestra, Bursa Regional Symphony Orchestra, Izmir State Symphony Orchestra, European Johann Strauss Orchestra, INSO-Lviv, and Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra. He performs with outstanding soloists (including Rafał Blechacz, Konstanty A. Kulka, Tomasz Strahl, Krzysztof and Jakub Jakowicz, Idil Biret, Ingolf Wunder, Michael Vaiman, Olga Rusina, Alexandre Dubach, Lukas Geniušas, Johannes Moser, Gautier Capuçon, Gulsin Onay, Alexander Markov).

For the Montansier Theatre in Versailles has prepared the Mozart opera of Apollo et Hyacinthus, for the Capitol Music Theatre in Wrocław – My Fair Lady by Loewe, for the Wratislavia Cantans Festival –The Little Sweep by Britten, for the Gliwice Music Theatre, i.a. The Addams Family (Jan Kiepura Theatre Award 2015 for the Best Performance). In the Grand Theatre – National Opera he prepared and conducted Oresteia by Agata Zubel, and at the Grand Theatre in Łódź – Mozart's Don Giovanni, Night in Venice by Strauss, Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Moniuszko's Halka.

Since 2002, he and the Polish Opera ensemble are regular visitors to the major concert halls of Europe and China. From 2013, he has been leading the orchestra of the International Music Courses in Łańcut, and conducts in the Music Theatre in Poznań and Wrocław Opera. He takes part in renowned festivals: Wratislavia Cantans, Xanten Sommerfestspiele, Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City, Virtuosos in Lviv, Tchaikovsky and von Meck International Festival in Vinnitsa.
