Anna Lubańska

Mezzo-soprano.

She graduated with honours from the Academy of Music in Warsaw (the class of prof. Krystyna Szostek-Radkowa). In the International Ada Sari Vocal Artistry Competition, she has received the first award and three honourable mentions. While still a student, she made her début as Blumenmadchen in Parsifal on the boards of Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera in Warsaw. She has been cooperating with this opera ever since.

Her most important roles comprise: Eboli in Don Carlos, Amneris in Aida, Fenena in Nabucco, Herodias in Salome, Jadwiga and Cześnikowa in The Haunted Manor, Mother Ubu in Ubu Rex, Olga in Eugene Onegin, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly and the title role in Carmen. In the season of 2010/2011, with great success, she performed the role of Didon in Les Troyens by Berlioz conduced by V. Gergiewa.

This artist also enjoys performing the parts of Azucena, Fricka, Santuzza, Adalgisa, Ulrica and Flora in La Traviata, Madelon in Andera Chenier, Margret in Wozzeck as well as Hodel in the Fiddler on the Roof.

She is an esteemed interpreter of the songs written by the leading composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Her oratorio and cantata repertoire encompasses: the dramatic symphony “Romeo and Juliet” by Berlioz, the Symphony no. 3, Pieśń o Nocy [Eng. Song of Night] by Szymanowski, Messiah by Handel, Seven Gates of Jerusalem by Penderecki, Missa Pro Pace by Kilar, both Passions and the Mass in B minor by Bach, Missa Solemnis, the Symphony no. 9 by Beethoven and many more.

Lubańska has appeared on the boards of the Bolszoj Theatre in Moscow, at the festivals in Wiesbaden and Cyprus as well as on the opera stages in Japan, Hong Kong, Norway, Germany, Great Britain, France and Russia. She cooperates with Polish philharmonics as well as with Warsaw Chamber Opera, operas in Poznań, Kraków and Wrocław. Anna Lubańska is the guest performer at the Wratislavia Cantans, L. van Beethoven Easter Festival, Warsaw Autumn and International K. Jamroz Music Festival. Moreover, she is a juror in singing competitions.

Lubańska has cooperated with numerous distinguished conductors such as V. Gergiev, M. Minkowski, S. Skrowaczewski, J. Krenz, J. Kaspszyk and J. Maksymiuk. Together with the team of Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera and Jacek Kasprzyk as the conductor, she recorded the Haunted Mansion (issued by EMI) and Ubu Rex. She has also made numerous recordings for the Polish Radio and TV [TVP].
